Healing Souls

Marc Greene and Dennis McNamara do not wear scrubs. They don’t drive ambulances or walk hospital hallways tending to the medical needs of those who are suffering from COVID-19 and other illnesses. But, make no mistake about it - they are doing their part to restore our health and imbue our spirits with hope and promise.

Simply stated - music heals. And Greene and McNamara are skilled surgeons who know just what their listeners need.

WUSB, 90.1 FM Stony Brook, NY, is the operating room from which they continue to cure the emotional malaise that has affected all of us in the wake of this pandemic and subsequent shut down of everything we love.  And nobody does it better.

Their speciality? The resuscitation of lifeless souls.

Long Island's largest non-commercial, free-form radio station has a lot to offer. Tune in any time and you'll hear sounds ranging from interviews, commentary, jazz, pop, punk, metal, electronic, noise, funk, folk, blues, reggae, polka, world music, live music, spontaneous mixes and groovy combustion. All of it is a welcomed distraction from the daunting challenges that face all of us in these troubled times.

Their latest remedy to what ails us came on May 8th in the form of the airing of singer Tom Petrone’s latest single, “Fly Again,” a silky, jazz ballad whose poignant message of starting over again despite the odds is just what the doctor ordered given our present situation.

Marc Greene and Dennis McNamara’s unique talent for recognizing quality music that speaks to people on multiple levels is something extraordinary.  Like all of our essential workers who have provided so much comfort and care for so many, they are to be celebrated and thanked for their efforts.

Why? The answer can be found in the words of Martin Luther:

“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.”
