A Heart’s Journey By Frank Nappi

Jazz enthusiasts and lovers of timeless ballads that speak to us in artful, rousing fashion have much to celebrate as breakout artist Tom Petrone gets ready to release his very first album, titled “Fly Again,” on April 16, 2021.

Petrone’s stunning compilation features a series of memorable tracks that celebrate the resiliency of the human heart and the beauty one may experience through the discovery of new love.

“Love songs are timeless,” Petrone noted. “In particular, songs that manage to capture the myriad emotions tied to the very complicated experience of love and romance, which is without question the most profound of all shared human experiences.”

Early reviews suggest with resounding reverence and enthusiasm that the album “Fly Again” does all of that, and more.

“Fly Again” takes seasoned jazz listeners, occasional dabblers and those completely new to the genre on an emotive expedition, one that chronicles in stirring fashion the journey of a human heart, from the first flicker of romance to the unbridled rapture that comes with a true love that is time tested to the anguish that is ushered in on occasion due to a failed amorous relationship and the attendant heartbreak that follows. “It’s all there,” Petrone added. “The full range of emotions tied to the love experience is what “Fly Again” is all about.”

Indeed, there is much at which to marvel.

The title track of Petrone’s album, “Fly Again,” which is already a hit single that has garnered countless critical reviews, has also found its way onto several high profile playlists on an array of streaming sites, all of which feature the work of some of today’s most talented and influential artists. “Tom Petrone is close to becoming a household name,” MP Music House CEO Dan Marshall mused. “Short of Michael Buble, there is no one else out there who can do what Tom Petrone can do. And everyone is starting to notice.”

Marshall’s observation is in no way an exaggeration. Petrone is creating quite a stir as he follows up the success of his hit single “Fly Again” with an album composed of an impressive collection of tracks that feature thought provoking lyrics, haunting musical arrangements and some of the silkiest vocals ever recorded.

“Fly Again” the album tells the story of one heart’s journey through the emotional tumult that defines the love experience. The title track explores the fear and trepidation germane to trying to love again in the wake of having suffered emotional trauma and heartbreak, but is careful to leave listeners with the optimism that one can mend and ultimately recapture hope and happiness with a new love. “Step,” the album’s second track, is an upbeat, toe tapping jaunt through the breathless early phases of a new, budding romance while “If I Said I Love You,” the third track on the album, embodies the inherent insecurity and doubt that accompany the return to the world of dating and romance and the idea of opening up one’s heart once again.

“Anyone who has loved, and then been betrayed by that very same love, knows it’s not so easy to open yourself up to that sort of hurt again,” Petrone explained. “I think most people can relate.”

“Head Over Heels” and “Let’s Get Lost,” the next two tracks, trace the evolution of the renewed heart as it forges forward to discover the blissful warmth and revitalizing energy that come when one finally shares true love with another. Rounding out this stirring sequence of blushing ballads is the acoustic version of the title track “Fly Again,” something that brings the listener full circle in an effort to illuminate the reality that even when love is soft and seamless, anxiety, fear and uncertainty still creep in at times and challenge us to continue to risk being hurt once again.

“Love songs speak to us like no other songs can,” Petrone said.

This is true. Consequently, it is a safe supposition that the album “Fly Again,” with its spectacular amalgam of human drama and musical gravitas, has a lot to say.
